Nagpur: Kamgar Ekta Union, Nagpur Unit, submitted a memorandum on Friday to Additional Commissioner Ajay Charthankar of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, urging the immediate commencement of a street vendor survey under the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
As per Section 3(1) of the Act, it is mandatory for urban local bodies to conduct a city-wide survey of all street vendors. No vendor can be removed without such a survey.
The memorandum highlighted the urgent need to initiate the process in areas like Budhwar Bazaar, Sakkardara, Uday Nagar, Dhage ka Bangla, Hasanbagh and Baidyanath Chowk. The Union demanded a transparent and participatory process involving union representatives and called for a halt on any evictions or displacements until vendors receive valid vending certificates.
The delegation was led by Kiran Thakre and Nilesh Khadase and included vendors such as Payal Paonipagar, Sangeeta Waghamare, Chandrakala Thakre, Dayavanti Ahirkar, Lalita Dudhbharai, Rajesh Gondane, Akash Deshpande, Nanda Meshram, Lata Chandangatve, and Rupa Sudar.
