Nagpur: A consignment of 102 bags of suspected rice was seized in Nagpur’s Jaripatka area, raising suspicion that the stock could be linked to the Public Distribution System (PDS). Police intercepted a goods vehicle near Sai Mandir and found the rice loaded inside.
However, officials said the nature and source of the rice can be established only after an investigation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

According to preliminary information, Jaripatka police stopped goods vehicle MH-49-B-4279 near Sai Mandir on Tuesday. During a search, police found 102 bags of rice loaded in the vehicle.
The police seized both the vehicle and the rice and kept them at the police station. The matter has also been brought to the attention of the FDA. The department is expected to examine the quality, source, purchase bills and transportation documents related to the consignment.
A key aspect of the investigation is to determine whether the seized rice is regular commercial stock or PDS grain. If the rice is found to have been diverted from ration shops, further legal action may follow.
There is also local discussion that ration grain is allegedly purchased from fair-price shops, transported to rice mills for processing and subsequently sold in the open market. However, these claims have not been officially confirmed so far.
Another aspect being examined is an alleged connection between the seized consignment and a trader identified locally as Jain from Panchpaoli. Police and the concerned department are verifying this information.
Police officials said that further legal action will be decided after the FDA submits its findings.
For now, the 102 bags of rice and the goods vehicle remain in police custody. The FDA investigation is expected to establish whether the seized stock is ordinary commercial rice or is allegedly connected to the misuse or diversion of PDS grain.
