Jalna: A quiet morning at CTMK School in Jalna turned tragic on Friday when a Class 8 student, just 13 years old, died after allegedly jumping from the third-floor corridor minutes after the school opened.

According to police, the incident took place shortly after the morning session began. Staff members rushed the critically injured girl to a private hospital before shifting her to the District Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Her father, employed as a sweeper at a private hospital, said he received a frantic call from the school informing him of the incident. Visibly shattered, he told reporters that his daughter had left home normally and showed no signs of distress. However, he alleged that she had recently complained of being teased by some boys in her class. “I told her to speak to the teachers. But nothing changed,” he claimed.

Investigators are also looking into another possible reason, academic stress. According to reports, the girl’s parents had been summoned by the school over her declining performance. She was reportedly anxious that teachers might inform her grandmother, who works as a sweeper in the same school, further adding to her emotional burden.

Inspector Sandip Bharti of Sadar Bazar Police Station said that a case of accidental death has been registered. “We are probing all angles, allegations of harassment, academic pressure, and personal stress. Only a thorough investigation will reveal what led to this unfortunate incident,” he said.

The tragedy comes at a time when student mental health has emerged as a growing concern nationwide. Earlier this week, a Class 10 student in Delhi ended his life by jumping from a metro station following alleged harassment by teachers.

Police in Jalna have urged parents, teachers, and schools to stay alert to behavioural changes in children and foster open communication to prevent such incidents in the future.
