The Congress party in the city appears to be fighting with itself as the Lok Sabha elections are drawing nearer and nearer. The drifters in Congress have gone ecstatic and have started joining BJP and thus sounding alarming bells to Congress party. The reason behind Congress leaders joining BJP, it appears most probably, the good prospects of the party in the upcoming general elections according to poll pundits. Many Congress leaders, specifically the minority ones, have lined up to join BJP, till now the untouchable party for those hardcore leaders who were serving Congress for years together.

Recently, two prominent Congress leaders, Sardar Navneet Singh Tuli and Sheikh Firoze Noorie entered BJP with much fanfare. Tuli was associated with Congress since his college days. He was an office-bearer of Youth Congress and also became Corporator on Congress ticket. But could not fight the elections of the NMC for one term due to illness.  In the last elections, Tuli again sought Congress ticket for polls to the civic body but was denied the same by the local bigwig leaders. Instead, Tuli was assured ticket for Assembly elections. Tuli actively took part in poll campaigns in the last two Assembly elections for Congress candidates from North and West Nagpur constituencies. One of the candidates, Anees Ahmed, lost the elections. However, Tuli has been running the affairs of Ahmed’s college since last year. But still, Sardar Navneet Singh Tuli breaking the ties with Congress and subsequently joining BJP is surprising to say the least.

Another surprising entry for BJP, and shocking to Congress, is that of Sheikh Firoze Noorie. Noorie’s father commands a great respect in the society. The North Nagpur MLA and Minister Nitin Raut, keeping in mind the popularity of Noorie’s father, brought Firoze into Congress fold and made him an office-bearer of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Minorities Front. However, Nitin Raut’s move did not go well with his close aides and supports who started resorting to clipping the wings of Firoze Noorie. But still, Firoze always assured the leader (Nitin Raut) and Congress hog limelight by doing some beneficial activities. But the sudden joining of BJP by Firoze Noorie left the Congress party bewildered and head scratching. Definitely bad omen.

It may be recalled, Nitin Raut has been made In Charge of Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency. However, some Congress leaders, instead of coming closer to him, are drifting away from the party. It is certainly beyond understanding of political experts notwithstanding politics being a different ball game. Most disturbing factor as far as Congress party is concerned, more and more minority leaders have been joining BJP, once the untouchable party. This phenomenon could certainly be called sounding of alarming bells for Congress. That too when the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.
