A team of income tax department with joint efforts of Central Excise and customs department conducted a surprise check at a Sarafa jeweler’s shop at Sarafa Oli, Itwari on Monday afternoon. The sudden raid caused panic among the Sarafa jewelers.

IT Team conducted raid at Sagar Jeweller owned by Puroshattam Kawde, who is also president of Maharashtra Rajya Swarnkar Sanstha. Kawde also owned a wholesale business. It has been learnt that a team from Mumbai IT department was present during the surprise check.
Sources from IT department informed that the raid was conducted on the investigations of 70 kilo gold seized from two Sarafa jeweler at Kolkata. IT officials came to know that Kawde was involved in delivering the gold to those arrested Sarafa jewelers of Kolkata.
The search was conducted at shop and Kawde’s home as well till 6 pm. However, IT officials didn’t reveal about any documents seized from shop or home. It has been learnt that around 5 months before, IT officials had conducted survey at Kawde’s shop.
