The Nagpur Dahi-Handi enthusiasts are eager to take in the festivities without any citywide limitations brought on by the pandemic after a two-year hiatus. The Govinda groups have been ecstatic about the celebrations more than ever before, and they anticipated that the organisers will announce hefty cash prizes.
The Itwara Nav Yuvak Mandal at Tanga Stand, Sarafa Bazar, Itwari, organised the annual Dahi-Handi event on Thursday. The participants of Jai Shitalamata Mahila Mandal, Bhandara, broke the Dahi Handi to take home the first prize of Rs 51,000 in women’s category.
Similarly, the Rani Laxmibai Durga Utsav has organised a mega Dahi Handi competition on Friday evening at Laxmi Nagar Volleyball Ground. The winning team stands a chance to win Rs 1 lakh prize. The mandal, which is famous for organising the mega Durga Utsav festival every year at the same place, is organising the Dahi Handi competition for the first time.
Govindas from various schools, colleges perform human pyramids to break the Handi (earthen pot) on the occasion of Dahi Handi. The Govinda groups are ecstatic about the celebrations more than ever before.
