Nagpur: Officials of Crime Branch Unit 3 arrested a 39-year-old man and seized a country-made firearm along with live cartridges during a patrol operation under the jurisdiction of New Kamptee Police Station.
Police said the operation was conducted between 7.05 pm and 8.30 pm on May 13 after the crime branch team received specific information about a suspect allegedly possessing illegal firearms in Anand Nagar, Ramgad area.
The accused was identified as Irfan Hussain Sheikh, a resident staying on rent at the house of Raju Gajbhiye in Anand Nagar.
Acting on the tip-off, police detained the suspect and conducted a search of his residence in the presence of panch witnesses. During the search, officials recovered a black iron country-made pistol with a magazine and two live cartridges.
Police seized the firearm and ammunition collectively valued at around Rs 56,000.
According to investigators, the accused was allegedly possessing the weapon with the intention of committing a cognizable offence and was also found violating prohibitory orders.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act at New Kamptee police station. The accused was arrested and handed over to New Kamptee police along with the seized weapon for further investigation.
One arrested, weapons seized from car near Gorewada Ring Road
Gittikhadan Police Station police arrested one person and seized multiple sharp weapons from a car near Gorewada Ring Road late Tuesday night.
According to police, the Gittikhadan police investigation team was patrolling the area around 11.55 pm on May 13 when they received information about suspicious persons near Ayyappa Temple on Gorewada Ring Road.
As police approached a red Volkswagen car bearing registration number MH-02-DZ-1135 parked on the roadside, three persons allegedly fled from the spot after noticing the police team.
One person found inside the vehicle was detained and identified as Syed Jameel Syed Jahid (21), a resident of Smruti Colony, Bokhara, Koradi area of Nagpur.
During questioning, the accused revealed the names of his absconding associates as Ajlan Mohin Qazi, resident of Jafar Nagar; Shreyas Shendre, resident of Civil Lines; and a person identified as Allen from Martin Nagar.
The accused reportedly informed police that they had earlier been involved in a dispute with some persons.
A search of the vehicle conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of three iron choppers, one sword and one iron axe from the car’s boot.
Police seized the weapons along with the car, collectively valued at around Rs 2.51 lakh.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act for allegedly possessing weapons with the intention of committing a cognizable offence and violating prohibitory orders.
One accused has been arrested, while police have launched a search operation to trace the remaining suspects. Further investigation is underway.
