Nagpur Regional Centre to be awarded gold medal

Nagpur: Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) 32nd convocation will be held on Wednesday, April 3.

Addressing a press conference, Regional Director, Nagpur Centre, Dr P Sivaswaroop, informed that for the convenience of the students spread across the country, IGNOU has adopted technology mediated web based convocation where students need not travel to Delhi and can receive their degrees from nearby regional centres.

The main function will be held at IGNOU headquarters New Delhi. Vice-President M Venkiah Naidu, will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address. The convocation will be held simultaneously at headquarters and 56 regional centres through web conference, Dr Sivaswaroop informed. Prof (Dr.) Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur will be the guest of honour at Nagpur and deliver the regional convocation address.

Every year IGNOU, New Delhi Awards gold medal to best regional centre among its 56 regional centres across the country. This year the gold medal will be awarded to Nagpur Regional Centre. Dr. P. Sivaswaroop will be receiving it at New Delhi at the hands of Mr Naidu.

Dr Sivaswaroop said the Nagpur regional centre is organising the convocation function at SHALOM Auditorium, Hislop College. A total of 1048 students will receive Masters Degree, undergraduate, diploma and PG Diploma at the ceremony.

He informed that Shubham Gajanan Kawalkar of Amravati emerged first throughout the country in Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGJMC) Program and will be receiving gold medal at Nagpur. In addition, 77-year-old student will receive his MA Anthropology Degree certificate at Nagpur.

Dr K Sasicoumar Brumot, Regional Director Incharge will conduct the convocation proceedings at Nagpur.
