Nagpur: NMC hospital situated in ward number 15 of Friends Colony has been shut down for past two years without declaring an apt and justified reason for the same. The hospital which had more than two dozen beds was inaugurated by Central Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The abandoned site of the hospital has several webbed and dangling electric wires around the area inviting possibility of a major mishap in near future. It is worth mentioning that the hospital was shut down in 2016 and no reason for the same was mentioned. The two storey building was handed over to NMC by a renowned builder of Nagpur in 2008-09 on the condition of approval for his another construction. It was a single hospital in the mentioned area and thus, was proving to be a huge service provider for the nearby residents.

It is also to be mentioned that the hospital premises is gradually turning into ruins. The building was also allotted to SRA Office a few months back. However, as soon as the department got its own building, this building was deserted again. There is no sign for security arrangements deployed in the vicinity of this construction. A deep pile of mud is what adds to the trouble. In addition, the rain water often gets blocked in the premises. The treat increases manifolds due to the presence of power carrying lines. When Nagpur Today tried to contact NMC Health Department no answer was received in this regard.

As is stated by senior corporator Harish Gwalvanshi, the hospital must be restarted. “When the hospital was in a running state, several people used to get benefit from it. I will meet Municipal Commissioner soon and request him to restart the hospital”, he said. He also said that he will try to start Ambulance service, Medical Store and OPD in the same hospital.
