Nagpur: Work on the road connecting Hingna Road to Wardha Road is in its final stages and is expected to significantly ease travel for commuters once completed. The new link will provide direct connectivity, eliminating the need for motorists from Hingna Road to take longer routes to reach Wardha Road.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijit Chaudhari inspected the project site on Tuesday (January 20) to review the progress of the work and issued necessary instructions to officials on the spot.
Senior civic officials present during the inspection included Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Superintending Engineer Leena Upadhye, Executive Engineer Anil Gedam, and Deputy Engineer Rajiv Gautam.
Officials said the newly developed cement concrete road at Takli Sim will offer a more convenient alternative to the busy Ring Road, which currently witnesses heavy traffic from Hingna Road towards Chandrapur, Butibori and Wardha. The project was undertaken by the NMC following persistent demands from local residents and has been developed as a connector to Orange City Street.
The 5.5-km-long road, linking Wardha Road to Hingna Road, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 63 crore under the State Government’s basic infrastructure scheme. As part of the project, an existing slum settlement was removed, and a private land parcel measuring 12,619 square feet was acquired for Rs 9 crore to facilitate the road construction.
The road has been equipped with decorative poles and modern street lighting to enhance visibility and safety. Steel grills have also been installed over stormwater drains to ensure smooth rainwater flow during the monsoon.
Once opened to traffic, the new link road is expected to substantially reduce congestion on existing arterial routes and improve overall connectivity in the area.
