Nagpur News : All this while film makers back home in Bollywood have sought ‘inspiration’ from English films. But with the news that we have got our ears on is a strong hint towards a reverse in this trend.

According to a daily, British Indian actor Atul Malhotra has been an avid fan of the film ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ since long. Therefore, he has decided to give a material form for his fondness for the film by remaking it in English.

The English version of the Hindi classic will be titled ‘Amar Akbar Tony’ and instead of the Hindu, Muslim and Christian angle of the original, the English remake will have a Sikh protagonist instead of a Hindu one.

English actors Rez Kempton, Martin Delaney and Sam Vincenti will enact the roles essayed by Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor in the original version. Also, British actresses Goldy Notay, Laura Aikman and Karen David will fit into the shoes of Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh and Shabana Azmi.

‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ was a work of legendary film maker Manmohan Desai. Had he been alive today, he would have cherished this moment of honour that his work is going to be adapted into an English film. Shabana Azmi, who played one of the lead roles in the Hindi film, is also very excited at this positive prospect. “Ab yeh din aa gaye jab woh hamari film banaa rahen hain. Waah!” she said to the daily.
