Nagpur: Panic gripped residents of Hudkeshwar’s Swagat Nagar after a highly venomous Common Krait snake was discovered inside the kitchen of a residential house late at night. The timely response of a local snake rescuer and the alertness of the family helped avert a potentially serious incident.
The incident occurred around 11 pm at a house located opposite Dharmendra Kirana Store in Swagat Nagar. Rajesh Gupta and his family were watching television when his wife went to the kitchen to prepare food. While working, she noticed what appeared to be a black rope lying near a basket of vegetables.

As she attempted to pick it up, the object suddenly moved, leaving her terrified. She immediately raised an alarm, prompting Rajesh Gupta and nearby residents to rush to the kitchen.
Realising the seriousness of the situation, Gupta quickly contacted snake rescuer Shubham Parale. Responding swiftly, Parale reached the spot within five minutes and began searching for the reptile.
During the search, the snake was found hiding beneath a vegetable basket. Upon closer inspection, it was identified as a Common Krait, one of India’s most venomous snake species. The rescuer immediately instructed everyone to maintain a safe distance before carefully capturing the snake and securing it in a container. The snake was later released safely into its natural habitat.
Speaking after the rescue operation, snake rescuer Shubham Parale appealed to citizens not to attempt catching snakes on their own. He advised people to immediately contact trained snake rescuers or the Forest Department whenever a snake is spotted inside homes or residential areas.
“The Common Krait is among the most venomous snakes found in India. Its neurotoxic venom directly affects the nervous system and respiratory functions. People should remain calm and seek expert assistance rather than trying to handle the snake themselves,” he said.
The incident serves as a reminder for residents to remain vigilant during the monsoon season, when snake sightings typically increase as reptiles seek shelter in homes and human settlements. Thanks to the family’s prompt action and the rescuer’s quick response, a major tragedy was successfully averted.
