Hi-tech physical tests for police recruitment begins in city

The physical tests for recruitment of policemen have got off to start the hi-tech way. The city police had invited applications for 240 posts of sepoys. It received an overwhelming response as 40,000 aspirants applied for the posts.

The physical tests commenced at the Police Headquarters at 5 am on Wednesday. Candidates in a batch of 1500 are being called to go through the gruelling tests. As the mercury is rising, the 1600 metre race is being conducted in the morning hours. Other tests include 100 metre race, long jump, pull ups, shot put etc.

Hi-tech:

For the first time, the Nagpur Police are using radio frequency identification device (RFID) tags to electronically record the time taken by candidates in the physical tests to bring complete transperency of their ongoing recruitment process. As many as 500 officers and men are engaged in the recruitment process under the direct supervision of DCP Suhas Bawche and DCP Abhinash Kumar.

A number of CCTV cameras have been installed at the site of every event to leave no scope for any kind of doubts about irregularities in the physical tests. Performance of every candidate is also being captured in handy cameras. The score of every individual candidate is being put up daily on a board installed at Police HQ. The candidates can see their score at the police website. They are also being sent SMSes as well as e-mails.

Arrangement of cool drinking water has been in place at the site of physical tests. Medical officers and ambulance too have been deployed to deal with any eventuality.
