Nagpur: Fed up with the alleged mental torture by seniors, a 19-year old member of ground staff of GoAir committed suicide at home on Thursday.

A resident of Lane No 1L, Chandramani Nagar, Manthan Mahendra Chavan ended his life by hanging himself from the iron rod of ventilator at his residence. Manthan’s father Mahendra is an X-Ray Technician at a private diagnosis centre, and mother Sushama is a policewoman attached to Special Branch, in city. Manthan was a happy guy after securing a job at GoAir at the young age. He was working as ground crew member at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur.

Parents of the deceased boy alleged that Manthan was under stress since past many days. They claimed that he was being harassed allegedly by his seniors and forced to report to work despite illness. Manthan’s seniors reportedly summoned him to work even after he informed them about his ailing health and requested them to grant him a few days’ leaves to recuperate. However, his superiors did not entertain his request and even threatened to terminate his employment, parents alleged.

In the report given to police, Manthan’s father stated that he was on leave for a week as he was down with jaundice. He had submitted medical report to the company, he stated. Also, Manthan was suffering from work-related stress, Mahendra Chavan alleged.

Ajni Police have registered a case and further probe is on. No suicide note was found at the spot, from where a piece of paper was recovered with the message, “Happy birthday mummy – I am sorry”. It was Manthan’s mother’s birthday yesterday.
