Guard opens fire in Kanhan, six injured

Nagpur: In a sensational case, a guard was booked under attempt to murder charges for opening fire at public and injuring six people with gun shots. However, cops have booked the injured and others in a counter case for attacking the guard. The firing took place at Khadan No. 3 in Kanhan on Friday at around 9.30 pm.

According to information, Vikas alias Raja Dhurve and his friends were heading towards Khadan No. 4 when the security guard Ajay Chauhan stopped them to enquire about their presence in the area. Chauhan suspected that the youths were involved in diesel theft in the area. Thus, he stopped the youths. The guard then started beating the youths after which they ran for their life. They ran towards the nearby ‘basti’. Later, the youths returned with 10-12 people from the same locality. It is to be mentioned that Chauhan was not in good terms with the nearby residents. He put up a quarrel with them after which the gathered people turned violent and started thrashing Chauhan. He saw the nearby gun and in an attempt to save himself, Chauhan fired at the crowd. This created panic among the crowd and they ran hassle-bustle for safety. However, Chauhan fired six round and injured six people.

The injured include Jagdish Bharti, Sachin Dhurve, Budharam Vishwakarma, Shivram Vishwakarma, Ashok Tekam and Pramod Chouhan. Kanhan police immediately swung into action after being informed about the firing. They rushed to the spot and sent the injured to hospital for immediately medical attention. Cops have taken the guard into police custody after registering a case under charges of attempt to murder.

Meanwhile, on the basis of the complaint given by Premshankar Raut, cops have registered another case against the others involved in the attack on Chauhan. According to details provided by Raut, 10-12 people were coming on their motorcycle and were heading from Khadan No. 3 to 4. Guard Ajay Chauhan stopped them. During investigations, Chauhan started beating one of the youths. The other youths left their motorcycles and ran towards the nearby ‘basti’. The youths then returned with wooden sticks, wooden bars and approached towards Chauhan. They attacked Chauhan. In an attempt of self defence, Chauhan grabbed the gun and fired at the crowd. Six people were injured in the firing. Meanwhile, the youths also set a WCL van on fire. The sound of firing created panic among the youths and they ran away from the scene. But, six others were injured in the firing.

Kanhan police station in-charge Subhash Makode has lodged complaint against both the groups and started their investigations.
