GSI felicitates GMC Dean Dr Niswade for promoting Geriatrics

GSI Felicitates GMC Dean Dr. A. NiswadeNagpur: Geriatric Society of India, (GSI) Vidarbha Chapter Felicitated Dr. Abhimanyu Niswade, MD, Dean, Government Medical College, Nagpur today at his chamber to place on record their appreciation for all the efforts taken by Dr. Abhimanyu Niswade to get a special 30-bedded Geriatric ward at the prestigious Government Medical College & Hospital, Nagpur along with OPD and other related services for the much neglected elderly people in the society Dr. Jayant Pande President, GSI, said on the occasion “It is much more appreciable that, after Mumbai, Nagpur is the only city amongst all other cities in Maharashtra upon which the Central Govt. has decided to bestow this honour. We have no doubt that the credit, to a large extent, goes to your medical and administrative capabilities.”

Dr. Sanjay Bajaj Secretary GSI said “It is worthwhile to mention here that Geriatric Society of India (Vidarbha chapter) was partly responsible for this honour coming to Nagpur. Our GSI (Vidarbha) has the maximum number of members (> 300), larger than any other chapter of GSI in India. Our Secretary, Dr. Sanjay Bajaj, is the official Co – ordinator of the National GSI for 4 states in our country- Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujrat. It was during the installation of the Pune chapter on 5th September 2015 that the National Secretary of GSI- Dr. O. P. Sharma and the then Dr. Arun Jamkar, Vice Chancellor of MUHS, Nasik, were the dignitaries present. It was at this forum that the Vice Chancellor of MUHS appreciated the immense work done by our GSI (Vidarbha chapter) and promised to allocate, in future, one Dept of Geriatrics to Nagpur & Pune if the Central Govt. decides to promote Geriatrics and Gerontology in our country. It seems that our long-awaited wish has been fulfilled.”

Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Gastroenterologist, Super Speciality Hospital, added “However, the real credit of getting this Geriatrics dept to our GMC, Nagpur goes to the dynamic leadership of Dr. Abhimanyu Niswade, a good clinician and an able administrator and of course, the Dean of GMC, Nagpur.”

Dr. Abhimanyu Niswade highly appreciated the gesture and promised to work in cooperation with GSI, Vidarbha Chapter in whatever way possible to raise standard of treatment to elderly in the institution. He also announced getting 2 PG Seats in upcoming medical branch of Geriatrics. He also informed on progress of commissioning of Trauma Care Unit with in house separate investigations services such as CT/MRI etc.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Vrinda Sahasrabhojane, Dr. Viajaya Tajane, Dr. Vinod Khandait, Asawari Deshpande. Dr. Niswade was also handed over books ofn Geriatrics as a token of love.
