
Nagpur: Jaripatka police have solved a chain-snatching case at a grocery store within four days and detained the main accused along with a minor. The accused allegedly entered the shop on the pretext of buying sugar and snatched a gold chain worth around ₹1.20 lakh from the neck of a 65-year-old shopkeeper.
The incident took place in the Sugatnagar area under Jaripatka police station limits. According to police, on the night of August 26, 65-year-old Rakesh Gupta was at his grocery and daily-needs store when a young man entered and asked for one kilogram of sugar.
While Gupta was weighing the sugar, the accused allegedly grabbed his gold chain and fled from the shop. The shopkeeper tried to chase him, but the accused escaped on a vehicle driven by an accomplice who was waiting nearby.
Following a complaint, Jaripatka police launched an investigation and examined CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding areas. Based on the footage and confidential information, police identified the suspects.
Within four days of the incident, police detained the main accused, Nikhet Bageshwar, along with a minor. The police recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the crime and a gold chain weighing around one tola from their possession.
Police are currently questioning both suspects and investigating whether they are linked to other chain-snatching incidents in the city.
