Nagpur: Introduction of VAT has brought complete change in system of sales tax said Former Chairman of Nagpur Branch of ICAI CA. Rajeev Damani while speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion of inauguration of 9 Days-Intensive Study Course on MVAT ACT-2002 organized by Nagpur Branch at ICAI Bhavan, Dhantoli Nagpur.

He said that sales tax law is very complicated especially in case of works contract. He further said that in recent times genuine dealers are affected by Hawala dealers and department should consider their cases with considerate approach. He further said that he is impressed with this unique course as previously no such courses were designed and organized by Nagpur Branch and this course would be helpful in developing and enhancing knowledge and skills for new members in the area of VAT practice.

Chairman of Nagpur Branch of ICAI CA. Ashwini Agrawal in his welcome address said that the laws in our country are becoming more and more extensive and the field of indirect taxation has assumed importance like never before. Realizing the need, Nagpur Branch has for the 1st time organized a 9-Day Intensive Study Course on MVAT Act-2002, covering important topics with learned speakers, he added. He further said that the programme does not have any structured CPE and the focus of the entire programme will be on practical approach and related solutions and to discuss various issues on of MVAT & Central Sales Tax. He said that the course will help the participants to update and sharpen their knowledge on the subjects deliberated during the course. He informed members that this is for the 1st time that Nagpur Branch has organized such a programme and with good response from members Nagpur Branch will be organizing many such intensive courses on other taxation laws in future.

Vice Chairman of WIRC CA. Julfesh Shah in his introductory remarks said that learned faculties from Vidarbha have been chosen for the course so that issues faced in Vidarbha Region could be addressed and proposal for the same can be submitted to the new State Government. He said that with introduction of VAT audit, responsibilities of chartered accountants have increased many fold and the various compliances needs to be done more efficiently and meticulously. He congratulated Nagpur Branch for conducting unique and informative Study Course on important taxation issues.
