Nagpur: With Ganeshotsav 2026 approaching, railway travel demand is already rising, prompting Central Railway to add 262 special train services for passengers travelling from Nagpur, Mumbai and Pune towards the Konkan region.
The additional services will start from September 9, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14. Of the 262 services announced, 200 will be reserved trains while 62 will operate as unreserved services, giving passengers more options during the festive rush.
Over 1.17 lakh confirmed bookings
The scale of the Ganpati travel rush is already visible. Central Railway has recorded 1,17,682 confirmed bookings on the 200 reserved special services, indicating strong demand even before the main festival period begins.

For passengers from Nagpur and other cities heading towards the Konkan belt, Sawantwadi Road will receive the highest number of special services at 112, followed by Ratnagiri with 64 and Madgaon with 24.
62 unreserved trains for last-minute travellers
Passengers who could not secure advance reservations will have another option, with 62 unreserved special services being added alongside the reserved trains.
Railway authorities are also preparing for heavy crowds at stations by increasing ticket counters, waiting areas and queue-management arrangements. Additional RPF personnel and ticket-checking staff will also be deployed.
Passengers have been advised to reach stations at least 30 minutes before their scheduled departure to avoid last-minute congestion.
With Ganeshotsav being one of Maharashtra’s biggest annual travel periods, the additional services are expected to provide some relief to passengers from Nagpur and other major cities travelling towards Konkan for the festival.
