Gang of Holi hooligans abuse, manhandle cops; seven arrested

A gang of Holi hooligans, under the influence, took law in their hands and abused and manhandled some cops on duty. Now, seven of the accused are cooling their heels in police custody.

In the first incident, Constable Vinod Kadve and other police personnel attached to MIDC Police Station, were on patrolling duty around 4.30 pm on Friday. During the round, the cops found five accused Pradeep Mohandas Mahant (38) of Vasudeo Nagar, Pradeep Chandrakant Ingole (49), Bandya alias Dilip Laxman Sul (22), Ganga alias Langdya Keshavrao Verma (25), Devrao Nagorao Bhoyar (58), all residents of Balaji Nagar and their unidentified accomplices celebrating Holi rather in objectionable way near Bharat Petrol Pump. When the  accused were told not to cross the limits the hoodlums started abusing and heckling the Constable Vinod Kadve and other cops on duty. Later, the accused went on rampage and damaged a car of petrol pump owner.

Based on a complaint filed by Constable Vinod Kadve, the MIDC API Godbole booked the five accused under Sections 353, 143, 147, 149, 427 of the IPC read with Section 135 of Mumbai Police Act and placed them under arrest. A search is on to nab other unidentified accused.

In the second incident, two middle aged brothers tried to “teach law” to a Police Constable and abused and heckled him as well.

The Police Constable Sanjay Kotangale (45) was on duty at Lakadganj Police Station around 2.45 pm on Friday. The two accused brothers Rajesh Gajananrao Khanorkar (47) and Umesh Gajananrao Khanorkar (44), residents of Nayapura, Prem Nagar, came at the police station and confronted the police constable over some issue. The accused shouted at the cop and said to him “Hamko pehchanta nahi kya?” “Hum kayda kanoon jante hai” (Don’t you recognise us? We also know law). Saying this the accused brothers abused Constable Sanjay in choicest words and also pushed and manhandled him.

On Sanjay’s complaint, Lakadganj PSI Gosavi booked the two accused brothers under Sections 353, 294, 332, 186, 323, 34 of IPC and arrested them.
