Nagpur: The Nagpur police have prepared an extensive security plan for the conclusion of Ganeshotsav 2026 and the Ganesh immersion processions under the leadership of Police Commissioner Dr Vishwas Nangre Patil. With large crowds of devotees expected during the immersion processions, the police, traffic, fire and disaster-management departments have been placed on alert. Dr Patil said the arrangements prioritise the safety of devotees along with maintaining law and order.
According to the police commissioner, 1,702 public Ganesh mandals have been registered in Nagpur this year. In addition, around 204,000 household Ganesh idols have been installed. The number of public mandals has increased by 140 compared with last year. Anticipating increased crowd pressure during the immersion, the police have prepared detailed arrangements in advance.

CA Road to Mahal identified as sensitive areas
Several major roads in the city are expected to see heavy crowds during the Ganesh immersion processions. The police have placed CA Road, Futala Road, Koradi Road, Itwari Road, Mahal, Jafar Nagar, Cotton Market, the Gandhi Nagar-Jafar Nagar area and Bhandewadi, among others, under special surveillance.
Additional police personnel will be deployed in these areas to manage crowds and traffic and ensure the smooth movement of the processions. Police officers have been instructed to maintain continuous patrols and surveillance in their respective areas.
Special arrangements at key immersion sites
Special arrangements have been made at major locations in and around the city for the immersion of Ganesh idols. According to the police, 361 idols are expected to be immersed at Gorewada, 42 at the Police Lines Takli lake, 612 at Nanda Koradi, 62 at Kachchiwisa and 104 at Mahadev Ghat.
In addition, around 512 idols are expected to be immersed in artificial immersion ponds prepared by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. The administration has appealed to devotees to use designated immersion sites and cooperate with the security arrangements.
Several mandals change immersion routes
Some Ganesh mandals have changed their regular immersion routes this year. Some mandals will immerse their idols at Gorewada lake and the Police Lines Takli lake instead of Koradi lake.
The police and traffic department have made special arrangements along the affected routes to prevent the changes from putting additional pressure on traffic management.
Heavy vehicles restricted on September 25 and 26
In view of Ganesh immersion, the entry of heavy vehicles into the city will be restricted from 8 p.m. to midnight on September 25 and 26, 2026. According to the police, heavy-vehicle entry will primarily be controlled on three routes:
Agyaram Devi Chowk to Ganesh Mandir Cutting; Model Mill Chowk to Maulana Natik Chowk; and Tilak Putla Chowk to Ganesh Mandir Cutting.
Traffic arriving from several major junctions will also be diverted to alternative routes. Traffic from Model Mill Chowk will be diverted towards Ramkular and Jadhav Chowk; traffic from Agyaram Devi Chowk towards Jadhav Chowk and Raman Science Park; and traffic from Maulana Natik Chowk and Tilak Putla Chowk towards Raman Science Park.
6,250 police personnel to handle security
About 70% of the total force of the Nagpur Police Commissionerate has been deployed for the immersion security arrangements. A total of 6,250 police officers and personnel will be stationed at various locations.
The deployment includes one police commissioner, one assistant police commissioner, three additional police commissioners, 11 deputy commissioners of police and 15 assistant commissioners of police. In addition, 87 police inspectors and 374 assistant police inspectors and police sub-inspectors will be on duty.
At the field level, 4,330 police constables, including 420 trainees, and 1,266 home guards will be deployed. One company of the State Reserve Police Force, four riot-control squads, four quick-response teams and three bomb-detection and disposal squads will also be on standby. Police personnel in plain clothes will be deployed as well.
Surveillance through 2,858 CCTV cameras
A total of 2,858 CCTV cameras will be used to monitor major routes and sensitive areas during the immersion processions. The cameras will be monitored through the command-and-control centre.
In addition, five mobile surveillance vans and drones will be available. Drones will be used to monitor crowd conditions, traffic and sensitive locations. Police teams will be alerted immediately if crowds suddenly increase or the situation changes in any area.
Fire brigade and disaster-management teams on alert
The fire department has also been placed on alert to deal with any emergency during the immersion. Thirty-one fire vehicles will be kept ready along with the city’s 12 fire stations.
Thirteen disaster-management teams will also be deployed. The teams concerned have been instructed to remain prepared for emergencies at water bodies and immersion sites.
Cyber police monitoring social media
Police surveillance of social media has been intensified ahead of Ganesh immersion. According to the police, 771 social media posts and videos have been monitored so far. Action has been taken against 13 posts found to be objectionable.
The police said social media platforms would continue to be monitored throughout the immersion. Action will be taken as per the law against rumours, provocative content or posts that could affect law and order.
Time limit imposed on loudspeakers
Judicial and government directives on the use of loudspeakers will remain in force during the immersion processions. The police administration has made it clear that the prescribed time limit for using loudspeakers must be followed. A notification on the relevant rules has already been issued.
Spacing to be maintained between mandals
Arrangements have been made to maintain an appropriate distance between two Ganesh mandals so that a large number of mandals do not gather at the same time and disrupt traffic and crowd management. Police officers will monitor the pace of the processions and the distance between mandals.
Preventive action against criminals
To prevent any untoward incident during the immersion, the police have intensified preventive action against criminals and other sensitive elements.
According to the police, 766 recorded offenders, 413 externed accused and 705 history-sheeters have been checked so far. Preventive action has been taken against 885 criminals.
In addition, notices have been issued to 1,450 people, of whom 51 have been detained. During the operation, illegal weapons were recovered from 22 accused. The police have also searched for 118 absconding accused.
Additional preparations based on last year’s experience
According to the police, seven offences were registered during Ganesh immersion in 2025. To prevent a recurrence this year, preventive action and surveillance have been increased in advance.
Temporary preventive action has been taken against 1,010 criminals under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The police aim to prevent possible disturbances and law-and-order incidents before the immersion.
Police commissioner’s appeal to citizens
Police Commissioner Dr Vishwas Nangre Patil has appealed to Ganesh mandals and citizens to follow the guidelines issued by the police and administration during the immersion. He urged them to use designated immersion sites, cooperate with traffic arrangements and not believe any rumours.
He also appealed to citizens not to forward any objectionable or misleading content on social media and to immediately inform the police about any suspicious activity or emergency.
