Nagpur: Common citizens across the country have once again been hit by a fresh fuel price hike, as petrol and diesel rates have increased for the third time in just ten days. The repeated hikes are adding further pressure on households already struggling with rising inflation and daily expenses.
According to the latest revision, petrol prices have gone up by 87 paise per litre, while diesel has become costlier by 91 paise per litre. Following the increase, petrol prices have reached ₹107.87 per litre, while diesel is now being sold at ₹94.39 per litre in several regions.
Third Fuel Price Hike in 10 Days
The cycle of fuel price hikes began earlier this month. On May 15, fuel prices were increased by ₹3 per litre. Another hike of nearly 90 paise followed on May 19. With the latest revision, petrol and diesel prices have surged by nearly ₹5 per litre within just ten days.
Fuel dealers in New Delhi stated that petrol prices in the national capital have climbed to ₹99.51 per litre, while diesel rates have reached ₹92.49 per litre.
Global Tensions Impact Indian Fuel Rates
Experts believe the latest hike is largely linked to rising crude oil prices in the international market amid escalating tensions and conflict-related concerns involving Iran. Since India imports a major portion of its crude oil requirements, fluctuations in global oil prices directly affect domestic fuel costs.
The increased import burden has reportedly put pressure on oil marketing companies, which is now being passed on to consumers.
Inflation May Rise Further
Economists warn that the fuel price hike could trigger another wave of inflation. Increased transportation costs are expected to impact the prices of vegetables, grains, groceries, and essential services.
With household budgets already under strain, the latest fuel price increase is likely to further affect the purchasing power of middle-class and lower-income families across the country.
