Frustrated with mental, physical harassment, woman commits suicide; hubby booked

Nagpur: Gittikhadan police says a 27-year-old woman, who committed suicide last month, took the extreme step after she was harassed mentally and physical over dowry. Husband of the deceased has been booked in Abetment to commit suicide case and investigations are on.

A 27-year-old housewife had sustained deep burn injuries on July 24 after a gas stove exploded while she was cooking food. She was rushed to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment but with major burn injuries, she succumbed on July 27. Cops registered a case of accidental death and started their investigations.

During investigations, police found that the deceased Vaishali Dhok was married to Siddharth Dhok (35) a few months ago. However, Siddharth started harassing Vaishali after three months of their marriage and demanded dowry. He abused her physically and mentally. Vexed with the daily harassment and cruelty towards self, Vaishali took the extreme step on July 24 and set herself afire. Cops have booked Siddharth under sections 498 (a) (Subjecting a married woman to cruelty) and 304 (b) of the IPC.
