Food and Drugs Deptt officials seize Rs 60,000 scented tobacco and Jafrani jarda

Nagpur News : Food and Drug Department have raided a shop and seized scented tobacco and Jafrani Jarda worth Rs 60,000 from the shop situated at Gandhi Gate. Cops have booked the shop owner for storing tobacco and Jafrani Jarda which has been banned by the Government.

The accused has been identified Ramesh Arjundas Jasnani (47), a resident of Nara Road, Jaripatka. According to information, Food and Drug Protection officer Akhilesh Raut and his team conducted the raid at Baba Traders, Gandhi Gate. Raut then lodged complaint with Kotwali Police who registered an offence under Sections 328, 188, 273 read with sub sections 3 (I) (II), (V), and 27 (2) (IV) of Food Protection Act.

Raut informed that Ramesh had stored scented tobacco and Jafrani Jarda in his shop with an intention to sell it. Raut mentioned that sell of scented tobacco and Jafrani Jarda have been banned by Food and Drugs Department, Maharashtra State, Mumbai in 2013. Ramesh had illegally stored the material which was later seized by the officials. Ramesh has been booked and further investigations are under way.
