Following Nagpur’s Instagram stories without an account: we put five viewers through local tasks in 2026

A lot of what happens in Nagpur now gets announced in a 15-second Instagram story before it shows up anywhere else.

A Dharampeth café posts that it has run out of the cold coffee everyone came for. A coaching institute in Ramdaspeth moves Sunday’s mock test to 8 a.m. A Ganeshotsav mandal shares the route for the immersion procession. An orange grower near Katol puts up the day’s rate per crate. Twenty-four hours later, all of it is gone.

That works if you live inside the app. Plenty of readers do not. Some never signed up, some deleted Instagram during exams and stayed away, and a fair number of older readers simply do not want an account at all. The question we keep hearing is some version of this one: can I see those updates without joining?

For public accounts, yes. Browser-based story viewers load a public profile’s current stories and highlights in an ordinary web page, with no login. We spent a week with the five that come up most often.

What a viewer can and cannot do

The limits first.

A viewer only works on public accounts. If a profile is private, no legitimate site can show it, and any page that claims otherwise is a scam worth closing straight away. Expired stories are gone too, unless the account saved them to highlights.

What you do get is simple. No account, no password, and your name does not appear in that account’s list of story viewers.

The test

We picked five tasks a Nagpur reader might actually have:

  1. Check whether a Dharampeth café is open on a public holiday.
  2. Find a coaching institute’s changed batch timing from yesterday’s story.
  3. Save a short procession video from a mandal’s story to send to family.
  4. Look through a boutique’s highlights for last month’s prices.
  5. Do all of it on a three-year-old budget Android phone, on mobile data, in the afternoon, when the network around Sitabuldi slows to a crawl.

Each tool got one point per task it handled cleanly. Five is a perfect score.

How they scored

1. StoriesIG: 5 out of 5

The only one that cleared every task. You type a username, the day’s stories load in order, and highlights sit in a row underneath. Each story has its own download button, so the procession clip went straight into the phone’s gallery and from there into the family group.

On the budget phone it was nearly as quick as on a laptop. That surprised us. No sign-up prompt, nothing to install, no pop-up asking for a plan. If you need a single story viewer to bookmark for local updates, this is the one we would pick.

The catch is small. There are ads around the page, and downloaded files come with long numeric names, so rename anything you plan to keep.

2. AnonyIG: 4 out of 5

Clean, and close behind. Its highlight browsing is the nicest of the five, which made the boutique task the easiest of the week. On the budget phone it was a touch slower than the winner with a long highlight reel, and that one point is the whole gap between them.

3. iGram: 3 out of 5

iGram is built around links. Paste the link to a story or a reel and you get the file, quickly and in good quality. Given how much of Nagpur forwards Instagram links on WhatsApp, that is genuinely handy.

Our highlights task and the coaching one started from a username rather than a link, which is simply not the job iGram was designed for. Hence third place.

4. LurkViewer: 3 out of 5

Another no-login story viewer, with a plain, uncluttered page and downloads for stories and posts. It got the café, the coaching update and the procession clip done without fuss. The top two made the highlights and budget-phone tasks a little easier, which is the only reason it sits here. A sensible backup to keep bookmarked.

5. Picuki: 2 out of 5

Picuki is aimed at a different job: reading a profile’s posts, captions and comments on one long page. For checking what a boutique has posted over the past month, it is very good. Our test was about stories, though, and for stories the first four were the better fit.

Side by side

Tool Tasks passed No login Best for
StoriesIG 5/5 Yes Daily stories, highlights and downloads
AnonyIG 4/5 Yes Browsing old highlights
iGram 3/5 Yes Links forwarded on WhatsApp
LurkViewer 3/5 Yes A simple backup viewer
Picuki 2/5 Yes Reading a whole profile

A few sensible habits

Add it to the home screen. Older family members find an icon far easier than a web address, and nobody has to explain it twice.

Write down exact usernames. Shops and mandals often have near-identical accounts, and some of those copies are fakes set up to collect advance “booking amounts” for events and deliveries. A viewer will happily show you a fake page too. Checking the exact handle is your job.

Save what matters on the day. If a coaching centre posts a fee notice or a changed exam date, download the story or take a screenshot right away. By Thursday, when you need to show it to someone, the story will not be there.

Respect private accounts. A private profile is a choice someone made. These tools are for public posts, and that is where they should stay.

Check highlights first. When a shopkeeper says it was in the story last week, it is usually sitting in a highlight.

Our pick

For following public Nagpur accounts without an Instagram login, StoriesIG did the job best and asked the least of us. AnonyIG is a strong second, iGram covers the forwarded-link case, LurkViewer is a tidy backup, and Picuki is the one for reading a full profile.

The café, for the record, was open. We found out from its story.
