Nagpur: After hassles of nominations, withdrawal of candidatures the decisive battle for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) election has commenced. A total of 1135 candidates, finally, will fight it out for the 151-member civic body.
The maximum number of candidates in the fray – 135 — are from Zone 9 comprising Prabhag 2 with 51 candidates, Prabhag 3 – 43 candidates and Prabhag 6 with 41 candidates. The least number of candidates are in Zone 1 – 50 candidates. The zone comprised of Prabhag 36 – 19 candidates, Prabhag 37 – 17 candidates and Prabhag 38 having 14 candidates.
The zone-wise position of candidates is as follows:
- Zone 2 – total candidates 79 with Prabhag 13 – 28 candidates, Prabhag 14 – 21 and Prabhag 15 – 30 candidates.
- Zone 3 – total candidates 69, Prabhag 31 –25 candidates, Prabhag 32 – 16 and Prabhag 33 – 28 candidates.
- Zone 4 – 76 candidates, Prabhag 16 (17), Prabhag 17 (32) and Prabhag 18 (27).
- Zone 5 – 92 candidates, Prabhag 26 (39), Prabhag 27 (30), Prabhag 28 (23).
- Zone 6 – total 121 candidates, Prabhag 8 (23), Prabhag 18 (28), Prabhag 19 (25),
Prabhag 20 (45). - Zone 7 – Total 123 candidates, Prabhag 4 (38), Prabhag 5 (46), Prabhag 21 (39).
- Zone 8 – Total candidates 101, Prabhag 22 (32), Prabhag 23 (23), Prabhag 24 (24), Prabhag 25 (22).
- Zone 10 – Total candidates 114, Prabhag 1 (37), Prabhag 7 (35), Prabhag 9 (42).
- Zone 11 – Total candidates 89, Prabhag 10 (29), Prabhag 11 (34), Prabhag 12 (26).
- Zone 12 – Total candidates 86, Prabhag 29 (34), Prabhag 30 (30), Prabhag 34 (22).
The maximum number of candidates — 51 — are in Prabhag 2 followed by 46 in Prabhag 5 and the minimum candidates – 14 – are in Prabhag 38.
Similarly, Prabhag 36B has only 2 candidates, Prabhag 37B – 3 candidates, Prabhag 32B – 3 and Prabhag 35B has 3 candidates.
The number of ballot units required to be pressed into service is 9000 and 3200 control units.
