FDA seizes scented tobacco worth Rs 6.12 lakh

Food and Drugs Administration team from city has seized scented tobacco worth Rs 6.12 lakhs in a raid conducted at a grocery shop owner’s house at Umred on Tuesday. Action has been taken against alleged accused Suraj Avchat for storing the scented tobacco, which has been banned by the Maharashtra government last year.
Avchat owned a grocery shop named Avhcta Kirana Store in Umred. However, the tobacco packets were seized from his newly constructed house at Umred. Acting on the secret information, FDA team conducted the surprise check first at Avchat’s shop and later at his house.
FDA officials informed that the seized samples will be sent for inspection and further action will be taken.
