FDA raids Akshaya Patra kitchens in city, collect food samples

Nagpur: Acting on complaints over poor quality of food in the Mid Day Meal Scheme run by the Akshaya Patra Foundation, officials of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) conducted a raid on the kitchens of the foundation and collected samples of Khichdi, Suji Halwa and oil along with some raw materials.

Earlier this week, the investigation officer appointed to probe the issue, was sent back empty handed by the Zilla Parishad officals who made sure the heat of probe does not harm them.

“Following several complaints against the Akshaya Patra Foundation, FDA team conducted a raid on Tuesday and sent the collected food samples for analysis. The FDA had sought compliance from the foundation regarding this issue,” said Milind Deshpande, Assistant Commissioner, FDA.

It is pertinent to mention that the tenure of the foundation will come to an end on June 24 this year.
