Nagpur, November 5, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the BJP’s ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) campaign in Nagpur on Thursday, accusing the Congress of displaying the Constitution while acting against its principles.

Fadnavis alleged that keeping a copy of the Constitution in hand while engaging in activities that undermine constitutional institutions had become an old habit of the Congress.

The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid an intensifying political confrontation between the BJP and Congress over the Constitution, democratic institutions and the functioning of the Election Commission.

BJP’s ‘Save Democracy’ Campaign in Nagpur

The BJP organised the padyatra in Nagpur as part of its nationwide ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ campaign.

The march was led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. It was aimed at countering the Opposition’s allegations against constitutional institutions and the electoral process.

The campaign sought to highlight what the BJP describes as attempts by opposition parties to create distrust in democratic institutions.

Political Battle Over the Constitution

Fadnavis has repeatedly accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of undermining constitutional institutions while claiming to defend the Constitution.

The Congress, meanwhile, has questioned the BJP’s commitment to constitutional values and accused the ruling party of using the Constitution as a political tool.

The latest exchange reflects the growing political confrontation between the two parties, with the Constitution and democratic institutions emerging as central issues in their competing campaigns.
