Nagpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sought legal action against two individuals for allegedly circulating defamatory and objectionable content targeting Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on social media.

A delegation led by Nagpur Rural BJP District President Anandrao Raut submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, demanding a thorough investigation and strict legal action against Trishul Patil and Manoj Jarange.

According to the memorandum, the two individuals allegedly used social media platforms to circulate obscene, objectionable and defamatory posts, videos and comments aimed at tarnishing the image of the senior BJP leader and state minister. The BJP has claimed that the content was deliberately created and shared with the intention of damaging Bawankule’s reputation.

The party has urged the police to examine all social media posts, videos and comments related to the matter and verify the authenticity and intent behind the content. It has further requested that appropriate provisions of law be invoked against those found responsible.

In its representation, the BJP also demanded the immediate removal of the alleged objectionable content from social media platforms to prevent its further circulation.

The memorandum stated that such defamatory and provocative posts have the potential to disturb social harmony and create an unhealthy atmosphere in society. It urged the police administration to act swiftly to prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The BJP has called for stringent legal action against the accused, stating that prompt intervention by law enforcement is necessary to deter the misuse of social media for spreading defamatory and inflammatory content.

Police are yet to issue an official statement on the memorandum or indicate what action, if any, will be taken on the complaint.
