Nagpur: In a daylight incident, an elderly woman was murdered in cold blood in her own house in Sakkardara area on Monday afternoon. The assailant(s) stabbed the woman on her throat. Ironically, the crime spot is just opposite the Sakkardara Police Station, a hustling-bustling area. Robbery is being suspected in the hacking of the frail woman.
The deceased has been identified as Shashikala Nashikrao Thakre (65), resident of Omnagar in Sakkardara jurisdiction. The daylight murder sent tremors across the nearby areas. The deceased Shashikala was staying with son Amit (35) and daughter-in-law Shubhangi. While Amit is HoD in Wardha’s Bapurao Deshmukh College, Shubhangi is lecturer in city’s Raisoni College. The Thakre couple has a 5-year old daughter Arohi.
The deceased Shashikala used to stay alone from 8 am to 4 pm as Amit and Shubhangi would go to their colleges and Arohi to her school. Shashikala’s husband Nashikrao died of heart attack 25 years ago. The Thakre family had renovated their house 2-3 months back and had also constructed two floors. The upper floors were rented out to some girls. Shashikala used to run a Xerox centre a few years ago.
According to police, some gold-silver ornaments and cash are missing. The missing of valuables suggest the murder of the old woman could have been committed for looting. The cops also noticed a few tea cups on the table. Shashikala could have been hacked with a scissor as a deep wound was spotted on her throat and some injuries on head. The daylight murder just metres away from Sakkardara Police Station has sparked tension in the area.
According to sources, Shashikala was alive till 2.45 pm as per footage of a CCTV installed at a neighbouring place.
DCP Zone 4 Shridhar, DCP (Crime) Ranjan Sharma, ACP Sakkardara, Sakkardara DB Squad, Crime Branch Squad visited the crime scene and started investigation into the cold blooded murder. A Forensic team and Dog Squad too arrived to help the investigation. Cops are scanning the footage of CCTV for any clues.
