Nagpur: After allegedly staying one step ahead of the police for nearly eight months by constantly changing his hideouts, a record-holding accused wanted in multiple theft and cheating cases has finally been arrested by Dhantoli police.
The accused, identified as Suraj Baburao Wadhai, was arrested following a combination of confidential information and technical investigation, police said. Investigators are now questioning him about his alleged involvement in other offences.

According to police, Wadhai had earlier worked as a manager at Pushpam Bar and Restaurant near Ajni Square. During his employment, he allegedly stole around Rs 52,000 in cash from the restaurant counter before fleeing.
Following the theft, Dhantoli police registered a case and began searching for him. However, the accused allegedly kept changing his location and moving between different hideouts, making it difficult for investigators to trace him.
Cases registered in multiple police stations
During the investigation, police found that Wadhai was not wanted only in the Dhantoli case. Cases had also been registered against him at Nandanvan police station in Nagpur and Ramnagar police station in Chandrapur.
Police said he had been absconding in connection with these cases as well and had managed to evade arrest for approximately eight months.
Investigators eventually received confidential information regarding his whereabouts. Technical surveillance was also used to track his movements. Acting on the information, police located the accused and took him into custody.
During preliminary questioning, police reportedly found that the accused allegedly committed thefts for money and deliberately kept shifting locations after the offences to avoid detection.
Police are now questioning Wadhai to determine whether he was involved in other thefts or cheating cases and to establish the full extent of his criminal activities.
