Nagpur: Shantinagar Police have solved a house burglary case by arresting a man who allegedly broke into a locked house and stole gold and silver jewellery worth nearly ₹4 lakh. During interrogation, police said the accused confessed that drug addiction and debts from online gambling pushed him into committing the crime.
The arrested accused has been identified as Swapnil Burade.
According to police, the burglary took place at the residence of Deepak Yadav in Sai Nagar, under the Shantinagar Police Station limits. Yadav, who works in Gadchiroli, was away with his family when the accused allegedly broke open the lock of the house and escaped with jewellery and other valuables.
During the investigation, police gathered evidence linking Burade to the burglary. After his arrest, he allegedly confessed to the crime, and the stolen property was recovered based on his disclosure.
Police said the accused admitted to being addicted to drugs and online gambling. Mounting financial losses and debt from online betting allegedly drove him to commit the burglary.
Officials also revealed that Burade has previous theft cases registered against him. Further investigation is underway to determine whether he was involved in other similar offences.
