On employer’s allegations, a domestic help was put behind bars for allegedly stealing cash Rs 17 lakhs from the office. While 35-year-old Nalini Bante has denied the allegations, Tehsil police has however found cash Rs 3 lakhs from her residence at Shanti Nagar.

Complainant Prem Govar, 47-year-old told that Bante was working as a domestic help at his office at Central Avenuefrom past one-and-half year. She continued working till January 19 when the theft came to light. Bante’s husband, Manohar, works with a private firm.
“On Saturday, Govar found the cash Rs 17 lakhs missing from the drawer. Before blaming anyone, he first searched his office and enquired other staff. Bante failed to give proper explanations and thus he filed a police complaint on Tuesday,” said PSI G P Ingle, the investigating officer.

Govar in his statement to the police claimed that Bante knew about the cash kept in his drawer at the office as well about the drawer’s Key.

He owns an office named ASA Agro private limited. He told police that he had received the cash from his business partner for some official purpose on January 11.

“Since he was in a hurry to go home, he kept the cash in the drawer. Later for a week, he didn’t check it thinking that the cash is safe in the drawer,” said Ingle. He added that Govar has earlier kept such heavy amount in the office.

Police taking into account Govar’s allegations, they checked Bante’s residence and found the cash Rs 3 lakh kept in the cupboard. He said that so far in the interrogation, Bante haven’t told anything told about the cash.

“She hasn’t told yet from where she had the cash. We will be questioning her more for three days during her police custody which is till Saturday,” said Ingle.
