Nagpur: A harrowing case involving the alleged abduction, torture, and sexual assault of a 16-year-old student in Nagpur’s Dighori area has taken a critical turn, as law enforcement agencies investigate whether the perpetrator broadcasted the attack live on the dark web.
The suspect, a BBA student from Thane who operated under the online alias “Akash Mehra,” is currently in police custody. Forensic experts are actively examining a laptop and two mobile phones seized from him to trace his digital footprint and verify the streaming allegations.

• Online grooming strategy: The accused allegedly spent nearly a year cultivating a fake online identity to contact minor girls across social media and Discord. He initially built rapport with two of the victim’s friends before making contact with the 16-year-old survivor.
• Escalation & Isolation: While the victim’s friends eventually severed ties with the suspect due to his increasingly abusive behaviour, the survivor remained in contact under his influence.
• The Incident: On August 2, the accused lured the victim to a rented apartment in Dighori. Investigators state he bound the teenager, sexually assaulted her, and inflicted 20 knife wounds.
• Live Transmission: Senior police sources indicate that during the assault, the suspect transmitted video footage of the violence to an external party. Forensic analysts are determining whether dark web protocols were utilized to host or sell the stream.
Authorities suspect the accused may have targeted other minors across Maharashtra. Investigators are reviewing his encrypted message logs on Discord and other platforms to map his full network, identify additional potential victims, and establish whether any accomplices were involved.
Statements from the victim’s two friends are being formally recorded to piece together the timeline of the suspect’s online activities. Given the expanding digital evidence, law enforcement plans to seek extended custody of the accused for further interrogation.
