Nagpur: Unseasonal cloud cover and light showers brought a significant drop in daytime temperatures across several parts of Vidarbha on Thursday, providing residents relief from the region’s usual October heat. Gondia recorded the lowest maximum temperature at just 24.8 degrees Celsius, which was 6.8 degrees below normal.
Nagpur and neighbouring districts also experienced relatively cool daytime conditions as cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall prevented temperatures from rising. The sudden change in the weather pattern has been attributed to the influence of cyclone ‘Arnab’, which has altered atmospheric conditions over the region.
Gondia witnessed the sharpest decline in daytime temperature, with the mercury remaining below the 25-degree Celsius mark. Bramhapuri followed with a maximum temperature of 25.7 degrees Celsius, while Gadchiroli recorded 26 degrees Celsius. Amravati registered 26.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Chandrapur at 27.2 degrees Celsius and Yavatmal at 28.6 degrees Celsius.
Nagpur, Wardha and Washim also recorded maximum temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius, reflecting the widespread impact of cloudy conditions across the region. In contrast, Akola and Buldhana remained relatively warmer, with maximum temperatures crossing the 30-degree Celsius mark.
Interestingly, while daytime temperatures witnessed a considerable decline, minimum temperatures across Vidarbha remained above normal. This contrasting trend indicates that the cloud cover and rainfall had a greater impact on daytime heating, while nighttime temperatures continued to remain relatively elevated.
The sudden change has brought a temporary departure from the warm conditions generally experienced across Vidarbha during October. Cloudy skies, light showers and reduced sunshine have made daytime weather considerably more pleasant in several districts.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the unsettled weather pattern is likely to continue over the coming days. Partly cloudy conditions are expected on October 30 and 31. From November 1 onwards, cloudy weather is likely to prevail across the region for another two to three days.
The extended spell of cloudiness may continue to keep daytime temperatures under check, although the intensity and distribution of rainfall will determine the extent of the impact.
For Nagpur and other parts of Vidarbha, the sudden dip in daytime temperatures has provided a welcome break from the October heat. However, above-normal minimum temperatures indicate that the region has not experienced uniform cooling.
