Beed: A shocking human trafficking and cybercrime racket has come to light, with nearly 800 Indians, including 25 youths from Maharashtra, allegedly being held captive in cyber scam compounds located in the notorious Golden Triangle region along the Myanmar–Thailand border. Lured by promises of lucrative jobs in Thailand offering salaries of around ₹70,000 per month, the victims were instead forced to carry out online fraud operations at gunpoint.
According to police, a 24-year-old man from Beed district’s Kaij taluka was recruited through a Facebook advertisement promising a high-paying job in Thailand. After arriving in Bangkok on June 4, he was allegedly abducted and transported to a secret camp in the forests near the Myanmar border, where his passport and personal documents were confiscated.
The victim secretly contacted his wife, revealing that he and others were being forced to work up to 18 hours a day conducting online scams. He alleged that those refusing to cooperate were subjected to electric shocks, brutal beatings, and death threats. The victim also claimed he witnessed the killing of three people inside the camp.
Taking serious note of the incident, Beed Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities are coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Maharashtra government to secure the release of the trapped Indians. Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat said efforts are underway to expose the international cyber trafficking network and rescue all those held captive.
