
Nagpur: The Anti-Chain Snatching Squad of the Crime Branch nabbed a 28-year-old man for illegally carrying a deadly weapon near Machhi Bazaar Road under Sadar police limits on Monday afternoon.
According to police, around 2:20 pm on October 27, the squad was patrolling the Sadar area when they received a tip-off about a man named Swapnil roaming in the locality with a weapon. Acting swiftly, the team reached the spot and noticed a person trying to flee upon seeing the police. He was chased and caught.
The accused was identified as Swapnil Murlidhar Lohve (28), a resident of Sundarbagh, Gaddigodam, Nagpur. A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of a steel sword worth ₹500 from his possession.
Police said the accused was allegedly carrying the weapon with the intent to commit a cognizable offence, thereby violating prohibitory orders. A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station under Sections 4/25 of the Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil, led by PI Mangala Harde and her team from the Anti-Chain Snatching Squad.
