Cops also recovered valuables worth Rs 1.40 lakh.

Police have arrested Amar Ashok Kharat (19) resident of Shrikrushna Nagar, Nandanvan and Milind Prem Hirani (19) resident of Shrinagar 1, Manewada, Ring Road under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

While addressing the press conference on Monday, DCP (Crime) Nilesh Bharne told media persons that the accused used to operate in different gangs. Besides pleasing their girl-friends with the stolen goods, addiction of cigarettes, hookah and alcohol had driven all the accused in the dark world of crime.

“Gang 1 had two minors, one in Std X and IX along with an adult accused identified as Karan Gadgilwar. The accused that started with petrol theft from nearby apartments and public places soon turned their attention towards bag lifting and robbery,” said the DCP. “Gadgilwar has been arrested by Butibori police,” he mentioned.

Bharne further said, “While gang 1 was operating with an adult, gang 2 had both minor accused. 16-year-old and 17-year-old teenage boys had temples on their radar. The accused duo walked away with Donation Box and also burgled sound systems of many temples.”

“Gang 3 had seven persons including five minors. They are the prime accused in the cases of vehicle theft,” added the DCP.
