Nagpur: With soaring temperatures disrupting daily life across Nagpur, even critical infrastructure is beginning to feel the heat. As the mercury continues to rise, residents are grappling with extreme conditions, while the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration has also increased significantly.
Amid the intense summer, the power distribution network is facing mounting pressure. Officials from MahaVitaran have reported that transformers across the city are overheating due to excessive load and high ambient temperatures. This has heightened the risk of equipment failure, explosions, and unexpected power outages.
In response, the electricity department has adopted an innovative cooling solution. Special coolers are now being installed on transformers to regulate their temperature and prevent overheating. This proactive measure aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply during peak summer demand and reduce the chances of breakdowns.
The initiative highlights the dual challenge posed by the heatwave, while citizens struggle to cope with rising temperatures, the power infrastructure too is under significant stress. Authorities have indicated that if temperatures continue to climb, the strain on the system could intensify further in the coming days.
