Nagpur: Study stress and anxiety to do well in the exam took yet another toll when a Class IX girl student ended her life by hanging in her house in Gittikhadan area on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shivani Tejbahadur Karki (16), resident of Swagat Nagar, near Avadhesh Motors. On Thursday around 9.45 pm, Shivani, a Class IX student of a private school, reportedly committed suicide by hanging to ceiling fan with the help of ‘odhni’ in her house. On being informed, Gittikhadan police reached the spot and after completing the paper formalities, sent Shivani’s body to Mayo Hospital for autopsy. API A D Bhande, who is investigating the matter, has registered a case of accidental death.
Gittikhadan Police Inspector R D Nikam told Nagpur Today that preliminary investigation has revealed that Shivani was somewhat weak in studies. Her parents had great expectations from Shivani and often ‘cajoled’ her to go through regular studies. The Class IX exams were soon to commence. And this fact made Shivani uneasy. This uneasiness could have forced Shivani to take the extreme step, said the PI Nikam.
