Chartered Accountants are the backbone of GST implementation: P K Agrawal

Goods and Service Tax was implemented from 01st July, 2017. Since the implementation of the act in 2017, a lot of confusion has prevailed with respect to various provisions of Act coupled with frequent IT changes. Under such circumstances Chartered Accountants took lead in educating the businessmen about various provisions of the new Act and has effectively supported the government by highlighting the difficulties faced by the common man said P K Agrawal, Addl Commissioner of Sales Tax, Vidarbha & Marathwada. He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Program of the 6 days Intensive Study Course on GST at Nagpur Branch of ICAI.

He added that the Goods & Services Tax regime adopted in India is unique in all terms and hence certain difficulties in compliance procedures were faced by the businessman in last one year, however the IT infrastructure is continuously being updated so as to provide a hassle free compliance mechanism under GST by the Government. He further highlighted that the Government is keen on ensuring that genuine businesses are not harassed under the stringent provisions of the Act which was evident from the fact that till date no Show Cause Notice has been issued by his department on any trader.

He largely complimented the professionals for supporting the department and working as their backbone during the implementation phase in last one year. He expressed his joy on seeing such intensive courses being organized by the Branch regularly for updating the members about the changes in the Act.

CA. Abhijit Kelkar, Regional Council Member, on this occasion spoke on the importance of being updated about the various changes happening in various laws & regulation while highlighting that the professionals should have the urge to learn and understand new laws so as to keep delivering high standard services to the clients in day to day practice.

Earlier, Chairman of Nagpur Branch of ICAI, CA. Umang V Agrawal in his welcome address informed the members about the various steps being taken by the Nagpur Branch of ICAI for GST awareness. He further thanked the Sales Tax Department for effectively listening to the various representations made by the Institute and acting on the same on a timely manner. He also informed the members about various forthcoming activities of the branch.

In this program CA. Shailendra Jain, CA. Ritesh Mehta, CA. Hemant Rajandekar, CA. Satish Sarda, CA. Milind Patel & CA. Preetam Batra will deliberated on various topics of GST.
