The time has come to understand the basics of leading a peaceful life and ensure that we cherish and value what we have with us said Padmashri CA. T N Manoharan, Past President of ICAI & Chairman of Canara Bank while speaking in the special session in the National Conference on Indirect Taxes being hosted by Nagpur Branch of WIRC of ICAI at Nagpur. The first Chartered Accountant to be awarded the honour of Padmashri by the Government of India said that in order order to be true and independent in ones life, a person has to do away with the materialistic pleasures any post or occupation may give. By renouncing such materialistic things, a man develops the power of evaluating things in a better manner with a broader mind. Manoharan was speaking on the topic ‘Sustainability of Happiness in Digital era’ touched upon the fact that it may not be true that success can buy happiness at all times but with a happy mind a person can succeed in everything one does. He further shared his analysis of Happiness as perceived by a common man. He said that 40% of the Happiness is derived by humans from doing things what they like, further 40% is obtained from being with persons whom they like and the remaining 20% happiness is shared equally by Money and the Individual characteristics.

While addressing the Chartered Accountant community in Nagpur he touched upon the value and importance of parents in our culture and requested the audience to ensure the parents are given love, care and affection throughout their life. The man behind the turnaround of Satyam explained various challenges faced in day to day life with some real life examples and showed a way to ensure that even after tremendous work pressure how a person can handle everything with a smile on their face.

Speaking on the Institute of Chartered Accountants CA T N Manoharan commented that ICAI is a body with young blood with over 53% of the members qualified in last 12 years. He highlighted the how the profession today has grown by leaps and bounds and continues to grow at a steady pace. He took pride in sharing the fact that over 25% of the total memberships comprises of women professionals while over 53% of the members are giving services directly to the thousands of industries in the country and abroad.

CA T N Manoharan is currently the Chairman of Canara Bank and was awarded Padmashri in the year 2010 by Hon’ble President of India for his work for restructuring the scandal hit Information Technology company Satyam Computer Services. Manoharan continue to provide his services to various banks and multi national companies without charging any remuneration which he says keeps him motivated and unbiased in all his professional assignments.

Earlier CA Jaydeep Shah Past President, ICAI said that over the period of time the professionals have come under tremendous pressure to outperform each other which has resulted in created huge imbalance between personal and professional lives. He congratulated Nagpur Branch for highlighting the importance of being happy for the members.

CA Umang Agrawal, Chairman of Nagpur Branch in her welcome address said that the Chartered Accountants are the partners in nation building and therefore each member represents the sentiments of a common man. The responsibility given on the Chartered Accountants is huge and therefore one need sources of inspiration and positivity all throughout. He welcomed Padmanshri awardee CA T N Manoharan while sharing his experiences and benefits a professional can derive by being happy at all times.
