Nagpur News:

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in a significant decision that would enthuse the students to roar “Cheers,” has brought forth a new rule. Now, the CBSE students could get rid of a troublesome or unpleasant subject and choose a vocational course to complete their studies. The new rule would be implemented from this very academic session.

According to experts, now the students, with this cheerful rule, can opt for a subject of their liking and make it a part of their course. This rule will not only help students choose the subject of their choice but also help them lay a firm foundation shining future. The CBSE has till now made the 33 vocational courses a part of the regular courses. The schools could now start the courses in accordance with the necessary facilities.

THE PROBLEMS: According to the CBSE directives, only those schools could start the vocational courses which have recognition from the Board. And that too with one or two courses. The training for teachers for such courses is a must. Moreover, the schools would have to run 9 periods of the vocational course in a week every period being of 40 minutes. The students would not have the liberty to choose any vocational course and will have to opt the course available in the schools. It is almost impossible for the schools to run all the vocational courses, firstly the lack of sufficient funds for required structures and also the shortage of trained teachers.

THE RULE: The students, who are studying the Science subjects and are not interested in Physics, then they could choose the Library and Information Science subject from the vocational course. Similarly, the Commerce students can choose Horticulture in place of Economics. There is no separate fee for this option. According to experts, no student will drop the main subjects, instead  will choose the vocational subject in place of extra subjects. This decision of the student will help him in keeping options in future. If a student wants to give priority to optional subject, he can do it after considering the future.

VOCATIONAL  COURSES: The vocational courses include Health and Beauty Study, Library and Information Science, Transport System and Logistics Management, Travel and Tourism, Horticulture, Electrical Technology, Automobile Technology, Ophthalmic Technology, Media Diagnostic, Health Care Service, Medical Laboratory Technology, and others.

BENEFICIAL FOR STUDENTS: Rina Dargan, Principal, Era International said, “the schools must have necessary structures and trained teachers for running the vocational courses. The markets are crying for talented and skilled personnel to fulfill their requirements. The vocational courses looking at the present situation would prove a boon in future,” Rina Dargan said.
