Cases of theft, chain-snatching, bag-lifting and mugging on the rise again

The unscrupulous elements, criminal and muggers seem to utilizing the opportunity arising due to the upheaval in the police machinery. Two such cases have come to fore.

In the first incident, the complainant identified as Naseem Sheikh Sheikh Anwar aged 45 years and resident of WCL Colony Umred was to go to Chindwara to attend a marriage ceremony. He arrived at Nagpur Main Bus Stand, Ganeshpeth from Umred by a bus on April 14, 2015 at around 1:20 pm. He was standing in front of a fruit juice vendor’s shop. Suddenly somebody diverted his attention and stole his bag. The bag contained Rs 8500/- (Rupees Eight Thousand five hundred), gold and silver ornaments totaling Rs 1, 45,000/- (Rupees One lakh forty five thousand). When the thief stole the bag, the cash and the gold and silver ornaments also got stolen.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by Naseem Sheikh Sheikh Anwar, Police Sub Inspector Pendur registered a case under Section 379 of Indian Penal Code against unknown offenders.

In the second incident which occurred on April 14, 2015 between 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, the complainant identified as Nayna Vasanth Ingalwar aged 30 years and resident of Hindsagar Hostel, Near Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur had gone to attend the Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations at Deekshabhoomi along with her friend identified as Suman Ambadas Deshbratar.

After paying their respects to Lord Buddha, these two ladies were standing in queue to receive the Mahaprasad.

Meanwhile taking advantage of the rush and the chaos, somebody managed to snatch the Gold chain and the mangalsutra jointly costing Rs 36,000/- (Rupees thirty six thousand) from Suman Ambadas Deshbratar.

When Suman Deshbratar realized that the gold ornaments were stolen, they rushed to Dhantoli Police Station and lodged a complaint. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the complainant, Woman Sub Inspector of Police Lande of Dhantoli Police Station registered a case under section 379 of Indian Penal Code against unknown offenders and is investigating further.
