Nagpur: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) has arrested two men accused of robbing a couple at knifepoint on the Butibori–Nagpur road after stopping their car on the pretext of asking for directions. The accused allegedly fled with gold jewellery worth ₹1.26 lakh, but were later tracked down with the help of a crucial mobile phone video recorded by the victims’ daughter.
According to police, complainant Sushant Hajare was travelling from Nagpur to Butibori with his wife and daughter when two men on a motorcycle signalled them to stop, claiming they needed directions. As soon as the car halted, the accused allegedly threatened the couple with a knife and snatched Hajare’s gold chain and his wife’s gold mangalsutra.

The total value of the stolen jewellery is estimated at ₹1.26 lakh. After committing the robbery, the accused fled towards Nagpur.
In a remarkable display of presence of mind, the couple’s daughter recorded the entire incident on her mobile phone. The footage clearly captured the faces of the suspects, providing investigators with vital evidence.
Using the video footage along with technical evidence, the Local Crime Branch identified and arrested the two accused, Afroz Pathan and Rameshwar Pagar.
Police are continuing to interrogate the accused and are investigating whether they were involved in other robbery cases in and around Nagpur.
