Nagpur: A gang of burglars targeted five houses in a single night in the Timki area under Tehsil Police Station limits, creating panic among local residents and raising concerns over the increasing number of thefts in Nagpur. The one of the accused, who struck despite family members being present inside one of the houses, was captured on CCTV cameras and is currently being traced by police.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the Chimabaipeth locality of Timki. One of the victims, Akash Suryavanshi, an employee with the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), was on duty on the night of the theft. His family members were asleep on the first floor of the house, while the ground floor was locked.

Taking advantage of the situation, an unidentified thief allegedly broke open the main door lock, entered the house and decamped with valuables. After targeting the Suryavanshi residence, the gang reportedly attempted thefts at four other nearby houses.
The houses of Deepak Gutkewar, Pundlik Godpage and Gopal Randive were among those targeted. In all, locks of five houses were broken during the night. However, the accused reportedly failed to find any significant valuables in the other houses.
The theft came to light when Akash Suryavanshi returned home from duty the following morning and found the lock broken and valuables missing. He immediately informed the police.
Upon receiving the complaint, a team from Tehsil Police Station rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. A dog squad was also pressed into service to trace the culprits and examine the area for clues.
During the probe, police collected footage from CCTV cameras installed in the locality. The suspected thief was seen in the recordings, providing investigators with crucial leads. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused based on the footage.
The incident has triggered fear among residents, who have demanded increased police patrolling and stronger measures to curb the rising number of thefts in the area. Tehsil police have registered a case and further investigation is in progress.
