Nagpur Today | Nagpur: A 16-year-old girl who had left her home without informing her family and later jumped into Ambazari Lake was rescued in time by members of the Shark Aquatic Club. The swimmers, who were practising at the lake, spotted the girl struggling in the water and immediately jumped in to save her.
The incident came to light while Sitabuldi police were searching for the teenager after her family reported her missing. The family had also found what was believed to be a suicide note, prompting police to launch an immediate search.
Police began checking CCTV footage from different parts of the city and searching possible locations. During the operation, they received information that a girl had jumped into Ambazari Lake.

Swimmers Act Without Hesitation
Members of the Shark Aquatic Club noticed the teenager struggling in the water. Understanding the seriousness of the situation, they immediately entered the lake and managed to bring her safely to the shore.
Vijay Sardar also played an important role in the rescue operation and helped bring the girl to safety.
After being rescued, the teenager was immediately taken to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Sitabuldi, for medical treatment. According to police, she is now safe and receiving treatment.
Police Honour Brave Rescuers
Recognising the courage and quick response of the swimmers, Additional Commissioner of Police Vinita Sahu honoured the members of the Shark Aquatic Club at a programme held at Sitabuldi Police Station.
Those honoured included Akshay Narendra Navale, Ishant Kamlesh Pandey, Rajnandini Rajesh Samarth, Lavanya Vikas Raut, Rahul Lanjewar and Shrimath Sandeep Mule.
Police officials appreciated the swimmers for stepping forward without worrying about their own safety and helping save the life of a teenager in distress.
Officials and personnel from the Sitabuldi and Ambazari police stations were also present. Senior Police Inspector Suhas Raut, Police Officer Yashraj Poman, and police personnel Pravin Gadhave, Ratnakar Devkate and Vijay Sardar were also honoured for their role in the incident.
Timely Police Action and Swimmers’ Vigilance Prevent Tragedy
The incident highlighted the importance of quick police response and public vigilance. While Sitabuldi police were tracing the teenager through CCTV footage, the alertness of the swimmers at Ambazari Lake helped prevent a potentially serious tragedy.
The timely intervention of the Shark Aquatic Club members ensured that the teenager was pulled out of the water safely and provided medical attention without delay.
