Nagpur: A bomb threat that triggered an emergency response in Nagpur’s Raj Nagar area turned out to be a false alarm after a 75-year-old woman allegedly informed the police that an explosive device had been planted in a car parked outside her house.
The incident occurred around 10.30 am on Friday, October 23, opposite Tidke High School, when the woman dialled the emergency helpline 112 and reported the alleged bomb threat, even providing the vehicle’s registration number, MH02 CN 9014.
Taking no chances, the police alerted the Traffic Department and the bomb disposal squad. Multiple police vehicles and personnel rushed to the spot, triggering anxiety among residents as the teams began examining the suspicious vehicle.
The sudden security operation drew curious onlookers out of their homes, with residents trying to ascertain the reason for the police deployment.
According to police, the car had been parked in front of the elderly woman’s house by a relative of a neighbour who had gathered in the locality to attend a function. The woman reportedly objected to the vehicle being parked at that spot before making the bomb threat call.
The bomb disposal squad thoroughly checked the vehicle but found no explosive device or suspicious material, bringing the scare to an end.
The car’s owner, an Assistant Sub-Inspector with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), also arrived at the spot and questioned the police about the inspection. He was informed that the vehicle was being checked following a bomb threat received through the emergency helpline.
Subsequent verification of the emergency call led the police to establish that the elderly woman had made the call. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and launched a further investigation to establish the circumstances and motive behind the false alarm.
The episode briefly disrupted the tranquillity of the residential neighbourhood, as a parking dispute escalated into a bomb scare that mobilised multiple emergency response teams.
