Nagpur: The City BJP, in order to maintain discipline in the party as well as curb anti-party activities, has secured resignation letters from all the 112 Corporators. The development in the hometown of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has sparked a kind of controversy in party circles.

In the last elections of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, the BJP had tasted phenomenal success by winning 112 seats. But, anticipating bickering and anti-party activities, the party resorted to securing resignations of all its 112 Corporators within a year. All the resignation letters are safely kept with a responsible senior party leader for further action if needed.

The senior leaders of the party say that if the Corporators are in any way involved in breaking the party’s discipline or indulge in anti-party activities, then the resignations would come handy in initiating necessary action against them

BJP Spokeman Girish Vyas said that it is a kind of damage prevention action. Sources from the party said that for last 30 years, the party has this tradition of taking written resignations from the Corporators in its every tenure. Due to some internal reason, this time the process got delayed, the party sources informed.

This action on the part of the BJP has created a stir among the party members in Nagpur unit. Some of the Corporators have expressed disappointment after they were asked to submit their resignations in writing to the party high command. “Has the party lost faith in its Corporators?” is the question being raised by the Corporators.
